Australian limited-overs skipper Aaron Finch became the second-fastest countryman to reach 5000 runs in ODI on Friday. The opener achieved this feat during the first ODI game against India at the Sydney Cricket ground.
The 34-year-old took 126 innings to reach the milestone as he surpassed the former Australian batsman late Dean Jones who took 128 innings.
Finch is now only behind his fellow player David Warner who just took 115 innings to reach the milestone. Former South African opener Hashim Amla took only 101 innings to reach the 5000-run mark in One Day International format.
Amla is the fastest batsman to reach 5000-runs in ODI. He accomplished the feat by surpassing Viv Richards (114 innings) and Virat Kohli (114 innings).
Indian skipper Virat Kohli is the only player on the list to have taken less time to reach the 5000-run mark in only 5 years and 95 days.
Currently, Australia has already crossed 150-run mark and lost the wicket of David Warner who departed on 69 runs. Steve Smith has come to the crease after Mohammad Shami sent David Warner back to the pavilion. Aaron Finch is batting on 82 runs and also inching close to his 17th ODI century.
Australia is already onto a solid start and is steadily approaching the 300-run mark. Players of both teams were seen barefoot and formed a circle to pay tribute to the traditional owners of the land.
