Ireland has named pacer Peter Chase and spinner George Dockrell in their 14-man squad for the second One Day International match against England in Southampton on Sunday.
The visitors have also dropped speedster Barry McCarthy from the series while Royd Rankin will be sitting out from the second ODI match due to his back injury.
McCarthy has been ruled out due to his knee injury after he suffered a tear in his back portion of his knee. The MRI scan showed the tears in his muscle implying he wouldn’t be a part of the playing XI.
“Barry McCarthy is unfortunately out of the next two ODIs after this morning’s MRI revealed a tear in a muscle at the back of his knee, while Boyd Rankin has been taken out of the 14 for tomorrow’s game as he manages a flare-up of an old back injury,” Andrew White, Chairman of National Men’s Selectors said in a press release.
Ireland lost the first ODI of the series as England chased down the target of 173 runs with six wickets remaining. Sam Billings scored 67 runs while David Willey took five wickets and helped England crush the visitors in the first-ever ODI match after the coronavirus pandemic.

The 2nd ODI match will be played at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton which is under the bio-secure bubble created by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB)
