RR vs CSK Highlights: Rajasthan Royals beat Chennai Super Kings for the second time in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League 2023 on Thursday. They were better than the Yellow Army in all departments of the game. Batting first, RR posted a formidable total of 202 runs on the board, courtesy of a sensational knock from Yashasvi Jaiswal.
He set the foundation for the big score by playing an aggressive knock of 77 runs in 43 balls at a strike rate of close to 180. Jos Buttler (27 off 21) and Sanju Samson (17 off 17) struggled to get going at the other end, but Jaiswal’s innings meant RR were scoring at almost 10 an over.
At the end of the 13 overs, Rajasthan had lost only 1 wicket for 125 runs. Tushar Deshpande brought CSK back into the contest as he picked the wickets of Samson and Jaiswal in the 14th over. A few silent overs and the wicket of Hetmyer made CSK believe that they could restrict RR to around 180.
Dhruv Jurel-Devdutt Padikkal partnership propelled Rajasthan past 200 runs
But Dhruv Jerul, once again, played a crucial knock down the order to help the team reach the 200-mark. He remained unbeaten on 34 off 15 balls. Padikkal also gave him good support with his 13-ball 27.
CSK couldn’t get a good start in pursuit of the daunting target. Devon Conway struggled to hit the straps at the start. He consumed 16 deliveries for 8 runs, while Ajinkya Rahane (15 off 13) also had a bad day at the office. Gaikwad’s 29-ball 47-run knock helped CSK get a decent start.
Later, it was Shivam Dube, who kept the hopes alive. Whenever the ball was in his arc, he ensured that it went for a six. He scored his third half-century of the season, while Moeen Ali (23 off 12) and Ravindra Jadeja (23 off 15) made notable contributions. However, despite that, CSK were always lagging behind the required run rate and in the last few overs, it became out of reach.
In the end, MS Dhoni and Co. fell 32 runs short of the target. With that win, Rajasthan Royals had surpassed CSK to take the top spot on the points table with 5 wins in 8 matches, while CSK slips to number three.
