Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Tuesday released the updated squad for the side’s forthcoming series against Sri Lanka. The series will comprise of two Test matches slated to begin on the Boxing Day at Supersport Park Stadium.
The board has released Beuran Hendricks and Keegan Petersen from the 19-member squad for the series. Both the players didn’t even join the entire team in the bio-bubble for the training sessions.
Last week two South African players had tested positive of COVID-19 and the board without revealing the names took precautionary measures.
The remaining 17 players in the squad have also been allowed to train with full strength after continued disruption of training. All the players have tested negative for the coronavirus and hence they don’t have to serve quarantine anymore.
At the same time, the hosting team will by any means get in contact with the Sri Lankan team who will arrive in the country this week. CSA would hope of having a COVID-19 free series against Sri Lanka after the ODI series against England was called-off earlier this month.
Last time three South African players and two England players had tested positive of COVID-19 under the behest of CSA as the players were given permit to play gold at various venues.
Sri Lankan players will also reside at the same venue where the hosting players are based at but they will have to first clear the COVID-19 tests.
