Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Wednesday named the pacer Migael Pretorius for the upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka. Pretorius also got his maiden call-up for South Africa for the Boxing day Test match against Sri Lanka at home.
The 25-year-old plays for VTB Knights in the country’s four-day Domestic Cup. Picking 19 wickets in five matches, Pretorius is also the third-highest wicket-taker in the tournament.
It also includes 7/102 against Hollywoodbets Dolphins in November will now join Lungi Ngidi and Anrich Nortje in the pace attack.
“We’re pleased to include Migael in the Proteas Test squad for the Sri Lanka series. We’re big on rewarding consistently good work and the player has done a lot to make a case for himself,” CSA Convenor of Selectors, Victor Mpitsang said.
“We hope that this experience will be a great learning one for him and that this can serve as encouragement for players across the country, showing them that their chances may not be as far off as they think,” Mpitsang added.
Bowlers Kagiso Rabada and Dwain Pretorius have still not been cleared to play in the series, hence they won’t join the squad in Pretoria for the preparation.
Last week, CSA had named South African squad for the series with Quinton de Kock leading the side, his first since his appointment as Test skipper.
The two-match Test series will be a part of the ICC Test Championship and the matches will be play at Johannesburg and Centurion.
