The Indian team registered their second win against Australia by six wickets at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Sunday. Skipper Virat Kohli had the last laugh as his side won the second T20I and took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series.
Virat Kohli also replicated what MS Dhoni did as skipper back in 2015 by winning the T20I series against Australia at their territory. Five years ago, MS Dhoni had played a significant role behind the stumps, leading his side to sealing the T20I series.
So much was his influence behind the stumps that Australian wicket-keeper and skipper for the game Matthew Wade even took his name during the second T20I.
It was during India’s inning with Shikhar Dhawan and skipper Virat Kohli on the crease chasing a total of 195 runs.
Swepson came in to bowl the ninth over and almost dismissed Dhawan in the last delivery of his over. He bowled wide the off-stump which Dhawan missed and went straight to Wade’s glove. Wade missed the stumping by a few seconds on what could have been a match-turning stumping for Australia.
Although he appealed to the on-field umpire which the TV umpire reviewed and reinstated it as Not Out. Seconds after the decision Wade was heard saying “Not Dhoni, not quick enough like Dhoni,” as both him and Dhawan burst into laughter.
Dhawan was dismissed in the 12th over after reaching his 11th half-century by scoring 52 runs off just 36 balls. He stitched a 56-run partnership with KL Rahul for the first wicket, followed by 39-run partnership with skipper Virat Kohli.
Later, India won the match by six wickets after the final over heroics from Hardik Pandya who scored 42 runs off 22 balls including two sixes in the final over.
India will next face Australia in the third T20I match in the third and final T20I match at Sydney Cricket Ground on December 8.
