Cricket Australia has suspended Melbourne Stars leg-spinner Adam Zampa for one KFC Big Bash League (BBL) match over the offence of “audible obscenity”.
The leg-spinner accepted the charges for the offence he committed during the match between Melbourne Stars and Sydney Thunder at the Manuka Oval on Thursday. He was reprimanded for the act and also fined $2,500 by the cricket governing body in accordance with the Level 1 Code of Conduct breach.
Zampa was heard swearing at the end of the third over for the Thunder’s innings. Zampa picked up 4 wickets in the match conceding 49 runs. Thunder won the game by 75 runs.
Following the ban, Zampa will be unavailable for the clash between Melbourne Stars and Hobart Hurricanes on Saturday Bellerive Oval on Saturday, January 2.
This is Zampa’s second ‘Level 1’ offence within a year. He was previously charged for “using language, actions or gestures which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter” in January, during a match between the Stars and Brisbane Heat in the 2019-20 KFC BBL season.
The Melbourne Stars will be without Zampa in the next match. Apart from him, Star’ bowler all-rounder Nathan Coulter-Nile will also be unavailable. Nile will not be available for at least a month owing to his calf injury that he sustained during the match against Sydney Sixers on the Gold Coast on Boxing Day.
