Former Zimbabwe skipper Andy Flower has revealed his opinion on who he thinks is a better batsman between Indian skipper Virat Kohli and Australian star batsman Steve Smith. Praising the incredible qualities both of them possess as a player, Flower expressed that picking a better batsman between the two is a tough call and he chooses rather not to.
Kohli and Smith are often compared for in the cricket world. Both of them showcase phenomenal skills as batsmen. They also compete for the first rank in the ICC Test Rankings, either one of them usually taking the first spot by a very small difference between their ratings.
Flower also acknowledged their incredible leadership skills and conveyed that they are good role models.
During an exclusive interview with The Times of India, when asked who between Kohli and Smith does he pick as a better batsman, Flower said, “Well, it would be difficult to pick between them. Smith has done amazingly well in Test cricket. I have been surprised by how well he’s done. But he’s shown that he can adapt his game and that’s a wonderful quality to be able to adapt and evolve and develop as Smith has done.”
“Kohli is incredibly skilful, hungry (for runs), and likes combat. He likes the battle. And I really admire that in him. I admire his energy which is up all the time. I think they have both got very good leadership traits. They’re good role models. I know Steve Smith has had a few battles in that area, obviously. But I admire them both and I’m not going to pick one or the other,” he added.
Andy Flower will be serving as the head coach of the Delhi Bulls team in the Abu Dhabi T10 League. The ‘fastest’ format of the game is all set to start from January 28.
