IPL franchise Delhi Capital’s speedster Anrich Nortje, who is in a groove this season, clocked a delivery of 156.2 kmph. The bowler engraved his name in the IPL history for clocking the fastest delivery ever executed to date.
The Proteas player made the record in the match between the Delhi Capitals (DC) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Dubai on Wednesday. The player clinched the record from his fellow South African teammate Dale Steyn. Before Nortje broke the record, Steyn held the title for delivering the fastest bowling in IPL clocked at 154.5 kmph.
Speaking to teammate Shikhar Dhawan on his record-breaking delivery, Nortje said in a video released by IPLT20.com, “I heard about it afterward. I did not know about it at the time. I have been working really hard getting my pace right up there. Been working on my braced leg and my front arm.. simple stuff. Need the attitude to get some pace behind it but still need to get it in the right area.”
To much of his surprise, Nortje’s paces were sent smashing across the field for four and six, scooped by Jos Butler before his delivery dismissed him, a much-needed wicket for DC.
On his face-off with Butler, Nortje commented, “Yeah, the battle against Butler was interesting. I know he plays the scoop shots, but when he played the first one, it took me by surprise. I did not think he would do it again, but he played the shot once again on the next delivery. He played really well, but I stuck to my strength, obviously we saw how the wicket was playing so I was trying to use the wicket and get some variation.”
DC is performing terrifically and is at the apex of the points table with 12 points till now this season. The team will lock the horns with the mighty Chennai Super Kings on 17th October in the Sharjah cricket stadium.
