Former Indian pacer turned commentator Ashish Nehra has said Rishabh Pant is the perfect find for replacing the retired MS Dhoni.
MS Dhoni formally announced his retirement from the international cricket on August 15 when he was with the CSK pre-season camp in Chepauk.
Nehra said that the left-handed wicket-keeper should be the first choice for India in the international cricket. Pant is playing for the Delhi Capitals in the ongoing IPL 2020 and delivering in all the matches with the gloves as well as the bat.
“It totally depends on which format we are talking about. If we are talking about Test cricket, and if you want to go with the best wicket-keeper then you also have to consider the mindset of the captain and coach. I am in total agreement with Sanjay Bangar, I think they should go ahead with Rishabh Pant. Pant should be backed! Every player needs to be backed when it comes to international cricket.” Ashish Nehra said during a show on Star Sports.
Sanjay Bangar also reverberated Nehra’s opinion saying Pant fits as the perfect replacement as the wicket-keeper batsman.
“In terms of wicket-keeping, I think it would be Rishabh Pant. I think the way he started this year’s IPL and I think it is very important to have a left-hander as an option because for Team India when it comes to the middle order it helps to balance out the right-handers,” Bangar said on Star Sports.
Pant had lost the place in the Indian team to KL Rahul during the last series in the New Zealand tour. But owing to his form in the IPL, the 23-year-old may well get back to the Indian team.
He has played 13 Tests, 16 ODIs and 28 T20Is for India and managed to score 1,198 runs so far across all the formats.
