Joe Burns, who had been struggling with a poor form for a while, silenced all his critics after smashing a match-winning half-century in the pink-ball Test. The 31-year-old scored an unbeaten 51 runs while chasing a target of just 90 runs in India’s faltered inning.
India’s fall of wickets in one of the most bizarre fashion was also their poorest batting on foreign soil in history. The hosts registered a comprehensive victory by 8 wickets, all thanks to the efforts by the bowler Josh Hazlewood, Patt Cummins and Mitchell Starc.
“We know we have opened up some scars as well. We just have to prepare well, start well, carry on the momentum from the first Test. But we know India is going to bounce back and the next Test is going to play a crucial role in the result of the series,” Burns said during a virtual interview.
“We are the best team in the world. We are confident against everyone at every venue. Our bowlers are unbelievable. I think they bowled really well in the first innings and didn’t get the rewards and then in the second innings they just nicked everything,” he added.
While India has been dealing with the inefficiency from the opening batsmen Prithvi Shaw and Mayank Agarwal, that has barred them from good starts in both the innings. Mayank has been able to get a decent start to his inning but Shaw has struggled big time so far.
He was dismissed cheaply in both the innings on a single digit including a duck on during India’s first innings.
Burns said that he would offer a piece of advice to the youngster but not until the conclusion of the Test series in January.
“I wouldn’t give him any advice as I am playing against him. I’m hoping that he makes no runs at all. I actually don’t know what form he is been in. I haven’t been following him,” Burns told ANI.
“He is obviously a quality player if he is playing for India. I might give advice at the end of the series, but not after the first game,” he added.
Both the teams will now head to the Melbourne Cricket Ground for the Boxing Day test slated to begin December 26.
