Bangladesh Cricket has dealt with another blow after the pacer Abu Jayed tested positive for coronavirus on Wednesday. Abu Jayed also becomes the latest Bangladesh player to have tested positive for the virus ahead of the Sri Lanka tour.
Earlier, the Under-19 sensation Saif Hassan had tested positive twice for the deadly virus and now Jayed’s report comes as a setback to the BCB.
Both Hassan and Jayed were are a part of the 27-member squad for the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka. Hassan finally tested negative yesterday but the very next day saw Jayed getting infected with the virus.
“Pace bowler Abu Jayed Chowdhury Rahi has reported positive for COVID-19. He will receive treatment in isolation for COVID as per guidelines and will undergo further tests in due course,” BCB sports physician Dr Debashis Chowdhury said.
As per the statement, all 26 players except Jayed returned negative and hence they were cleared of taking part in the training session.
SLC and BCB had a few disagreements over the quarantine protocols with at least 14 days of self-isolation and no provision of playing. However, they came up with a split quarantine in which the players would be quarantined for one week at home while the other week after landing in Sri Lanka.
The first test of the three-match test series will begin from September and will span till November.
