Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Tuesday announced to increase the salary of its women cricketers in the next few days.
BCB Women’s chairman Nadel Chowdhury said that he has pitched the idea to the board to increase the salary of the women cricketers. This would be applicable for the women cricketers who are currently on the national contract. This decision would also bring in a good news for the women’s cricket which functioned on low fees.
While the men’s team receives Six Lakh Bangladeshi Takka (BDT) for Tests, along with two lakh BDT for the limited overs matches. On the other hand, female cricketers receive only 100 USD for playing in ODIs and 75$ to play in the T20Is.
BCB women committee chairman Shafiul Alam also admitted that the pay difference is vast and needs to change to empower women to take up the sport.
”I agree the amount they what they receive as international match fees [100 USD] is very minimal in the present context and so we have proposed to increase that to USD 400,” he said.
Shafiul also afformed that the women’s wing have already proposed to increase number of contracted cricketers as well as raise their salary by 10 to 20 percent in the next few days.
“It’s true with this salary certainly women cricketers find hard to survive but we cannot make drastic change overnight and we are gradually trying to come forward with different initiative.” he concluded.
