Veteran Bangladesh all-rounder Salma Khatun who represented the national team across all the formats will play in the upcoming Women’s T20 Challenge. Khatun has been one of the synonymous faces in the Bangladesh’s women team ever since the country’s women’s team starting playing international cricket.
The 30-year-old along with Jahanara Alam will be seen playing in the forthcoming Women’s t20 Challenge in the UAE.
Khatun will represent the Traiblazers squad led by the Indian vice captain Smriti Mandhana in what is called the precursor to the women’s IPL.
She last featured in the Women’s T20 World Cup held between February and March this year. Since then, it has been seven months she hasn’t played any form of cricket.
Speaking on playing for the Trailblazers, which will her first time of playing in a T20 tournament, the all rounder said she has been lucky to be associated with the tournament.
“I thank Almighty Allah for all this recognition,” Khatun said.
With a knack of playing in all formats of cricket, the part time off spinner feels she is lucky to play alongside the budding talent. She will also share the dressing room with the veteran Indian seamer Jhulan Goswami in the Trailblazers.
“It feels great. Younger cricketers respect me. I am lucky to represent the country on such a big stage. I was happy when I heard that I was going to the IPL. I was practising every day in any case, but when I heard I was going to the tournament, I started working harder”
Both Khatun and Alam are currently training in Mirpur under the supervision of Bangladesh’s bowling coach Mahbub Ali. This will be the first time they will get the opportunity to play in the UAE in a T20 tournament.
“I have never played in the UAE, so I don’t really know much about it. I have to look at the wicket and size of the boundaries to see how it will help my batting and bowling,” she added.
