Australian all-rounder Ben Cutting joined the Sydney Thunders after making a move from his former BBL team Brisbane Heat on Thursday. Cutting also ended a nine-year-long association with the Heat following the differences with the team leading to his move.
The 33-year-old has signed a deal of two years with the Thunder starting from the 2020-21 season in December. Cutting would now get to play alongside Usman Khawaja at the Thunder and will also join the head coach Shane Bond. Both Bond and Cutting have previously worked together in the Heat as well as the IPL franchise Mumbai Indians.
“It’s playing alongside good people, most of the guys I’ve come across and played a lot of cricket against or with around the world. Guys like Callum Ferguson, Chris Green, Usman Khawaja, one of my best mates, then not having to face the Daniel Sams’ slower ball so happy to be on the same team as him.” Cutting said after signing with the Thunder.
Bond said that the addition of and all-rounder in form of Cutting would be great for the side as he has one of the best strike rates in the T20 cricket. Besides, he has also taken 123 wickets and remained a vital cog of the Heat during his stint with them
“We were looking to bring in some experience. If you want to be there at the business end you need those experienced players, and we were also looking for players that can bring a unique skillset” Bond said.
The 10th edition of the Big Bash League will begin from December 3 with the final schedule yet to be released in the coming weeks.
