Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Tuesday confirmed resuming the domestic season in the country after a hiatus of six months. This comes after the postponement of the Test series against Sri Lanka in October due to the quarantine rules.
Board chairman Nazmul Hassan said that they will introduce a new T20 tournament before getting onto the incomplete Dhaka Premier League. This also implies that Bangladesh will not play any international series against any team until January next year.
The competitive domestic cricket starts in October in Bangladesh and this time around, all the top players would be present.
The BCB had named the 27-man preliminary squad for the Sri Lanka tour and the players had already started their training in Dhaka.
Now they will continue to train for the next couple of weeks before playing three warm-up matches. Hassan said that the domestic season would most likely consist of the T20 matches.
“Our COVID situation hasn’t improved to the point that we can start everything normally. But we are going to start [domestic] cricket,” Hassan said.
“The national team will resume their training camp for the next 15 days and will play three practise matches,” he added.
The BCB is ensuring that players get the hang of playing the competitive cricket before resuming the international cricket next year.
“We will resume the [incomplete Dhaka Premier] league once I have the proposal about running the leagues by keeping the players safe,” Hassan opined.
“It is very important for us. The clubs and players must sit together and give us a plan, and then we will give them a guideline,” he concluded.
