Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Tuesday postponed the Under-19 camp as a precautionary measure to combat the spread of coronavirus. The board was forced to take this call after at least three players had tested positive for Coronavirus.
One of the BCB officials also confirmed that players have been found positive and now put under quarantine.
“We have stopped the Under-19 camp from Saturday (October 17) as some of the cricketers were having symptoms and we did not want to take any risk,” he said.
“Along with that the Under-19 Asia Cup also got postponed so we felt that it’s better to give them some rest as they had earlier done a month-long camp. We will sit next month to see how we can arrange few matches for them as we have to see them perform in match conditions,” he added.
BCB also found a couple of cricketers and other members of the team management, forcing them to call off the camp starting from October 14.
Under-19 head coach Naved Newaz is also reportedly under the isolation along with the 15 cricketers in the National Swimming Complex in Mirpur.
Total number of COVID-19 cases in Bangladesh has peaked almost 4,00,000 as on Tuesday with 78,746 active cases.
