The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) congratulated the limited-overs Vice-Captain Rohit Sharma for winning the prestigious Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award on Friday.
BCCI took to the Twitter account to wish the Indian opener on the special occasion as they posted: “Congratulations @ImRo45 for being conferred with the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award, 2020, India’s highest sporting honour. He is only the fourth Indian cricketer to receive this award. We are proud of you, Hitman!”
Only three other cricketers before Rohit Sharma have won the prestigious award i.e., Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni.
Other athletes to have received the award on August are Mariyappan T from Para Athletics, Manika Batra (Table Tennis), Rani Rampal (Hockey) and Vinesh Phogat (Wrestling)
Pacer Ishant Sharma and Deepti Sharma also won the Arjuna Award this year as the BCCI wished both of them for winning the prestigious award.
The ceremonial took place virtually and the names were announced by the Indian President Ram Nath Kovind to keeping in mind the social distancing norms.
