The Board for Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) on Wednesday approved the 10-team from the IPL 2022 season after the AGM meeting. The board conducted an AGM meeting at Ahmedabad on Wednesday followed by Secretary XI vs President XI friendly match at Motera Stadium.
During the 89th Annual General Body Meeting, the board unanimously approved the proposal of a 10-team IPL from the 2022 season.
The apex body agreed on incorporating two new teams in the league and as per the sources, Ahmedabad is one of the names to have a team on its name.
BCCI has been backing International Cricket Council (ICC) bidding for a place of cricket in the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028.
Currently, the board is focusing on going resuming the domestic cricket in the country with the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy slated to go underway from January 10.
They also clarified on why the IPL 2021 will go as usual with just the eight teams and not nine or ten next year as it will be a hasty decision.
“There are a lot of modalities that needs to be discussed and most of the stakeholders feel that with IPL being held in April, there is very little time for a mega auction and to have a uniform retention policy, agreeable to all the existing franchises,” a senior BCCI official told PTI on conditions of anonymity.
