Kandy Tuskers finally won their first match in Lanka Premier League after defeating Galle Gladiators by 25 runs on Monday. It was a high-scoring rampage that saw Tuskers’ bowlers getting the better off the Gladiators’ batsmen leading to their first victory.
Kandy Tuskers also broke their two-match losing streak after putting in a clinical performance from both bat and ball against Shahid Afridi and his men.
Earlier, Tuskers batsmen put in a joint effort and taking the team score to a massive total of 196/5 in 20 overs. Wicket-keeper Brendan Taylor top-scored with 51 runs, studded with 7 boundaries and one six, followed by Kusal Medis who miss his well-deserved half-century by just one run.
Lakshan Sadakan picked two wickets for Gladiators followed by a wicket each from Amir, Mohammad Shiraz and Dananjaya.
Gladiators didn’t start off well after losing the opener Hazratullah Zazai in the first over, making the first blot to their chase. One end saw Danushka Gunathilaka ensuring the run flow at one end. He scored 82 runs off 53 balls but not enough to help his side pull a victory.
It was an unpleasing batting collapse of the Gladiators who missed out yet another time in finding their first win in the tournament.
Tuskers wicket-keeper Brendan Taylor was adjudged the player of the match for his half-century that helped them put a stiff total in the first place.
Kandy Tuskers are now slated to face Dambulla Viiking in their next LPL match on December 3 at Mahinda Rajapaksa International Stadium in Hambantota.
