Indian leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has registered a rather unwanted record of conceding the most number of runs in ODI by an Indian spinner, yet again. The right-arm spinner registered this record on Friday during the first knockout of the three-match ODI series between Indian and Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
Chahal gave away 89 runs in 10 overs, scalping only one wicket of that of Marcus Stoinis. He dismissed Stoinis for a golden duck. The spinner broke his own record which he held previously by conceding 88 runs, the most by an Indian spinner in the ODI format.
Before him, spinner Piyush Chawla the record, who had conceded 85 runs in a span of 10 overs. Overall, Bhuvaneshwar Kumar holds the dubious honor of conceding the most runs by an Indian bowler in ODI format. Kumar registered the unwarranted record in 2015 by giving away 106 runs during a match against South Africa.
Chahal is known for his fearless bowling and for experimenting with the ball. His recent campaign for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) during IPL was a success story. He took 20 wickets in 14 matches, greatly helping RCB to make it to the play-offs.
While the Indian spinner made a disappointing record, the Australian skipper Aaron Finch garnered the limelight by surpassing the 5000-runs mark in ODI during the match.
Currently, Hardik Pandya and Shikhar Dhawan are holding it together for the Men in Blue. India stands at a loss of four wickets at this point. After the loss of some crucial wickets, they need to get their act together in order to clinch the victory.
