The ongoing tussle between Channel Seven and Cricket Australia has taken a new turn over the broadcasting contracts. The broadcasting giants Channel Seven and Foxtel have refused to pay the CA the amount of $55AUD million for September.
The channel was supposed to pay the sum amount of AUD 25 million to the apex cricket body but they are unwilling to pay further.
Earlier, Channel Seven’s James Wareburton, the head of Channel Seven had publicly called CA’s administration a trainwreck and incompetent.
The channel had paid the first installment saying that it believes in “fair value” despite the scare of the pandemic.
“Putting aside the questions of the breach, in accordance with the contract Seven has invoked the right to appoint an independent expert to determine the fair value of the media rights against the expected schedule for the season compared to the originally published schedule. Seven has paid the first instalment reflecting our fair value,” said Warburton.
Earlier, the Channel Seven had sent a letter to the Cricket Australia, notifying them of terminating the broadcast contract worth AUD 450 million contract.
Seeing the current approach of the Channel Seven, it is unlikely that they will continue their contract with Cricket Australia.
