Kings XI Punjab managed to win their second match of the season and also broke their seven-match winless streak on Thursday.
KXIP top order batsmen looked in a great touch against the seem-less RCB’s bowling especially skipper KL Rahul who continued with his sublime form with the bat.
It was the RCB skipper Virat Kohli who had won the toss and elected to bat first at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. With a collective contribution from all the batsmen RCB posted a total of 171/6 in 20 overs. Virat Kohli remained the top scorer with 48 runs while Chris Morris gave the blasted 25 runs off 8 balls in putting up a respectable total.
Murugan Ashwin and Mohammad Shami took two wickets each and managed to restrict RCB below 200 on a high-scoring track.
In response, Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul gave a good start to the team put up a partnership of 50+ runs in 8 overs. The duo looked in a great touch before Yuzvendra Chahal came and cleaned his wicket and also provided the first breakthrough to the RCB.
Chris Gayle came to the crease to play his first match of the season, playing against his former IPL team. He stitched a partnership of 93 runs with KL Rahul (61 runs) for the third wicket and helped in grabbing two winning points.
KL Rahul became the player of the match for his knock of 61 runs off 49 balls studded with five sixes and one boundary. He continues to keep the possession of the orange cap with 448 runs in 8 matches so far.
KXIP will next face Mumbai Indians in their upcoming match on October 18 in Dubai International Stadium.
