Former South African batsman Colin Ingram on Monday announced his contract extension with the county cricket team Glamorgan. The 35-year-old will now extend his stay at the club until the 2022 season and also play in the County Championship.
He will currently play as the replacement of Australia’s Marnus Labuschagne in four-day cricket and serve as coach for the youth team.
The left-handed batsman missed the entire 2020 county season due to the travelling restrictions back in his home country in South Africa. He had come into a Kolpak deal in 2014 to play for Glamorgan, also putting an end to his international career.
He has played 21-ODI and 9 T20 internationals for South Africa and scored 843 and 210 runs respectively. His Kolpak deal was terminated in 2020, following UK’s exit from the European Union.
Ingram last played competitive cricket during the Pakistan Cricket League in March, will now play in the upcoming Big Bash League.
“It’s great to re-sign for Glamorgan and get back on board after the uncertainty over my contract and Kolpak players in general,” Ingram told BBC Sport Wales.
“I could fill in a lot more in Championship cricket as well when Marnus is away and spend a lot more time around the club.
“Coaching is something I’ve dabbled in at the club and in South Africa, I’d really like to spend more time with people at the club, hopefully giving those younger guys some advice and the tools to grow their game; especially in the 15-20 age group, it’s something I’m working towards,” he told over guiding the youth team.
Ingram has signed with the Hobart Hurricanes for the upcoming season of the Big Bash League. After the BBL, he will head to Abu Dhabi to play T10 cricket.
