Cricket Australia (CA) on Friday said that they would be implementing a stricter protocol for shining the ball during the upcoming tour of England. Australia is set to return to international cricket with the white-ball series against England starting from September 4.
Earlier, the ICC had announced that the bowlers won’t be able to use saliva for shining the ball when cricket resumes after pandemic. At the same time, they gave relief to the bowlers by permitting the use of sweat for shining the ball. The use of saliva was restricted to lower the risk of the spreading of the coronavirus among the players and umpires.
But now, Cricket Australia has come up with a new rule, prohibiting the use of sweat from any part of the body during the limited-overs tour of England.
“There’s slightly altered guidelines from what people may have seen from the previous England series here. You can’t use sweat from around the face, neck or head and you obviously can’t use saliva.” pacer Mitchell Starc said after reaching England.
Starc feels there is no such need of shining the ball in the white ball cricket as much as it is needed in the Test cricket. The red ball is used for 90 overs and hence, the bowlers feel the need to shine the ball to favour the pacers.
