Zimbabwe Cricket announced the halt of all forms of cricketing activities in the country due to the rising COVID-19 cases. The decision was taken after the country’s government imposed new regulations to combat the spread of coronavirus.
The country has reported 1342 positive cases and 29 deaths in the last seven days leading to a nation-wide curfew to curb the crisis. As a precautionary measure, all the cricket clubs also shut down until further notice in the light of rising cases.
Zimbabwe Cricket has been dealing with hardships for the last two years and the COVID-19 pandemic has jolted the entire administration. The board was on the road to resurrection and also organized a domestic T20 tournament slated to begin on January 4. Unfortunately, the whole tournament has been postponed with all the players still under the mandated quarantine.
The board released an official statement saying that the tournament has been postponed and will only begin when it is deemed safe in the future.
Zimbabwe is slated to play against Afghanistan for a white-ball series consisting of three T20Is and two ODIs at the end of this month. Considering the current scenario in the country, the series remains doubtful that is due to take place in UAE or in Zimbabwe.
