Delhi Capitals have claimed the top position in the ongoing IPL 2020 after defeating CSK by 44 runs on Friday. Shreyas Iyer and his men put up an all-round performance, especially the bowlers as they throttled the CSK batting lineup.
After winning the toss, CSK decided to bowl first as Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan opened the batting for Delhi. Shaw looked in a remarkable touch from the first ball he faced and went on to score 64 runs off 43 balls. He studded his inning with nine boundaries and one six and also built a partnership of 94 runs with Shikhar Dhawan.
After the dismissal of the openers, Rishabh Pant and skipper Shreyas Iyer took the driver’s seat and took the score to 175/3 after 20 overs.
CSK’s opening batting woes continued
Murali Vijay and Shane Watson opened the inning for the CSK for chasing the target of 176 runs in 20 overs. CSK had a slow start as the openers failed to connect the bat with the ball. Murali Vijay looked rusty just like he did in the tournament opener game against the Mumbai Indians. While Shane Watson tried to give a good start but subsequently, the duo gave away their wicket within the powerplay.
Faf du Plessis showed the same grit and continued with his crackerjack form as he hit 43 runs off 35 balls before giving his wicket to Kagiso Rabada. Ruturaj Gaikwad failed yet again after getting run out on 5 runs off 10 balls.
CSK required over 18 runs in an over but the likes of Kedar Jadhav and MS Dhoni were clueless in front of the pace duo Rabada and Nortje.
Kagiso Rabada finished with 3/26 in four overs while Anrich Nortje took 2/26 in his spell of four overs. Prithvi Shaw was named the player of the match for his knock of 64 off 43 balls. CSK lost two wickets in the last over and lost their second consecutive match in the season.
