A domestic match between Titans and Dolphins was called off at SuperSport Park due to a COVID-19 case on Monday. The second day saw the game being cancelled after one of the Dolphin players reported of testing positive for COVID-19.
Players of both the teams are now set to undergo COVID-19 tests and isolate themselves until tested negative and cleared to play again.
Earlier this month, the ODI series between England and South Africa was called off after some players of both the teams tested positive of COVID-19. Some members of the team hotel also reported testing positive of the deadly virus.
“Our domestic cricket has not been played in a big bubble, which is similar to many other tournaments around the world such as county cricket, but we have strict Covid-19 [safety] protocols which we adhere to,” Dr Shuaib Manjra, Cricket South Africa’s chief medical officer, told ESPNcricinfo.
“We will test all the Dolphins players to determine if they need to quarantine in Centurion before returning to Durban, and we will test the Titans players as well. We have got a number of players in the Proteas squad. I don’t think it will have an impact on the Sri Lanka series but we will have to wait to make a decision.” he added.
Sri Lanka team is due to tour South Africa for the two-match Test series starting December 26 with the Boxing Day test. Sri Lanka’s head coach Mickey Arthur has already arrived in South Africa, as he informed via his official Twitter account.
He also confirmed that the rest of the team will join him after the finals of the Lanka Premier League between Galle Gladiators and Jaffna Stallions.
