England’s upcoming white-ball tour of South Africa finally got a green signal after a hiccup of uncertainties last week. Last week the members had rejected the board headed by the interim leader appointed by the government of South Africa.
Sports Minister Nathi Mthethwa has already starting interviewing the game’s governing body ahead of the England’s series. One of the sources of the ESPNCricinfo said that the series is slated to begin from November 27 only for the sake of players and cricket fans.
The series could still be at jeopardize if the members continue to flout the recognition of the an interim board proposed by government.
Mthethwa will likely use National Sports and Recreation Act to interfere at CSA board that will enable him to withdraw fund and stripe them off their status as a nationally representative body.
On Wednesday the member council wrote to Mthethwa saying they wouldn’t appoint the board. Even in case the members don’t recognize the board, the ministerial action may still not lead to the cancellation of the tour.
This will be South Africa’s first ever home series post the coronavirus pandemic i.e., March this year. They will also host Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Australia in the course of their home season starting from November 27.
