Former South African pacer Vernon Philander’s younger brother Tyrone Philander was shot to death in Cape Town on Wednesday.
Vernon Philander had announced retirement from all forms of cricket on December 23 after the conclusion of the test series against England.
The tragic incident took place in the cricketer’s home town Ravensmead in Cape Town, ESPN Crininfo reported.
The 35-year-old took to his official Twitter account to confirm the news as he posted: “Our family is coming to terms with the brutal murder in my hometown of Ravensmead earlier today. I would like to ask that the family’s privacy be respected during this difficult time”
As per the local media, Tyrone had gone to the neighbourhood to deliver water, where he was shot dead to death by some men. Police is currently conducting the investigation over the incident although no evidence was found at the spot of crime.
Apart from Tyrone, Vernon also has two elder brothers Brandon and Darryl Philander.
