Former Sri Lankan cricketer Anthony Marinon Opatha, famously known as Tony passed away at the age of 73 on Friday. The former right-arm medium pace bowler is suspected to die of a stroke at his residence in Colombo.
As per the ESPNCricinfo, the domestic stalwart was admitted in the hospital from the last few days.
In his career, he played five ODI matches for Sri Lanka and also represented a club in Ireland and also played in Netherlands’ domestic cricket.
He was also one of the first cricketers in Sri Lanka to play in the county cricket in England. Besides, he was successful with the national team before playing his last game against India in 1979.
In September 2018, Sri Lanka Cricket commended him for his services before Sri Lanka was named as a full-member in the ICC panel.
