Mohammad Sozib, former Bangladesh Under-19 player passed away after committing suicide at his residence in Durgapur on Sunday. The news of his suicide broke out after the local police confirmed the development after his demise.
The 21-year-old opening batsman last played in the Dhaka Premier League back in 2017-18 for the Shinepukur Cricket Club. Besides, he also played for the youth Bangladesh team in three ODIs and also named as reserve in the squad for the 2018 Under-19 World Cup.
“I can’t believe what I heard,” BCB director Mahmud told Kaler Kantho.
“I am feeling extremely sad hearing the news. He was an opening batsman who bowled medium-pace, and he played for Shinepukur Cricket Club.” he added.
Sozib started training at the Bangla Trac Academy in Rajshahi under the supervision of Khaled Mahmud back in 2008. He was touted as one of the most talented cricketers and also a potential pick in the Bangladesh team in the future.
Tanumoy Ghosh, one of Sozib’s fellow cricketers said, “I always believed that he could play for a long time because he was so hard working in the academy. It is sad to hear what happened to him.”
