Zimbabwe Cricket Board on Friday announced appointing Givemore Makoni as the managing director of the apex body. The 45-year-old will assume his new position on an immediate basis as he returns after serving a suspension.
Last year Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) had suspended Makoni from his designation along with the entire board following alleged complaints about the nomination process.
Makoni has been associated with the Zimbabwe Cricket since 2018, before getting suspended in June last year.
After suspending the entire board, SRC appointed David Ellman-Brown, Ahmed Ibrahim, Charlie Robertson, Cyprian Mandenge, Robertson Chinyengetere, Sekesai Nhokwara and Duncan Frost to overlook all the cricketing affairs in the coutry.
One of the reasons for his suspension was because of his inability to resolve the issue of clearing the $ 27 million debt that was already webbing the board.
“Makoni has however successfully spearheaded a restructuring exercise designed to address ZC’s perennial viability challenges and to forge a sustainable financial and cricket future,” Zimbabwe Cricket said in a release.
“Under his watch, ZC has been vigorously reviving its cricket structures, with the launch of an elite national club competition, the National Premier League, as well as two women’s inter-provincial tournaments, the Fifty50 Challenge and the Women’s T20 Cup, being among the highlights.” it further stated.
