England pacer Harry Garney has been ruled out of the upcoming season of the Vitality T20 Blast starting from Thursday due to a shoulder injury.
The 33-year-old left-arm medium bowler sustained a shoulder injury resulting in him not playing for his team Notts Outlaws. At the same time, Garney will also miss out on playing for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the upcoming season of IPL.
Garney informed ESPN CricInfo that he won’t travel to the UAE for the 13th edition of the IPL. He joined the side last season and also became a man of the match in a game against Rajasthan Royals.
“Having gone through the same frustrations as everyone this year in waiting for cricket to restart, I’m devastated to have to miss the Blast. Some of the proudest moments in my career have been with Notts, and nothing quite compares to being out on the field at Trent Bridge competing for trophies with some of my best mates. To have that taken away for a year is tough.” Gurney said.
Notts Outlaws head coach Peter Moores also said that losing Garney has come as a huge setback for the side especially a day before the tournament starts.
“Harry would improve any T20 side in the world, so it’s a blow to lose him for this year’s tournament. With the experience and expertise, he’s gained from a global white-ball career, he’s become a real leader in our limited-overs dressing room.” Moores said.
Garney has been the leading wicket taker in the T20 Vitality Blast from the last three seasons and his absence from KKR would bother them in the UAE.
