Indian all-rounder KL Rahul has been released from the Indian squad after the player suffered from a wrist injury during a practice session in Melbourne. This comes as another stumbling block for the team as they are already without their captain Virat Kohli, and two reliable bowlers Mohammad Shami and Umesh Yadav, both of whom are out due to injury.
“KL Rahul sprained his left wrist while batting in the nets at the MCG during Team India’s practice session on Saturday,” BCCI said in an official statement.
“The wicketkeeper-batsman will not be available for the remaining two Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy as he will need about three weeks time to recover completely and regain full strength.”
“He will now return to India and head to the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru for further rehabilitation of his injury,” the statement concluded.
Rahul was the match-winning player of India versus Australia ODI series. But despite being included in the squad was not chosen in the playing XI for the first two Tests. And now he has been ruled out due to his injury.
However, the inclusion of Rohit Sharma is a great relief for the team as the opponents have also welcomed back David Warner.
India has levelled the four-match Test series with Australia by 1-1 after an impressive 8-wicket victory in the second Test at Melbourne. The team is scheduled to next lock horns with Australia in the third Test on January 15 at the Sydney Cricket Stadium.
