Pacer Umesh Yadav suffers a calf injury during his fourth over on day three of the Boxing Day Test of India versus Australia, giving a major blow to the Indian cricket team.
Yadav had to walk out of the field, limping, after he suffered a painful strain in his calf muscle during the eight over of Australia’s inning. The BCCI officials then assessed him to confirm the severity of the injury.
The BCCI confirmed the news on their Twitter handle. “Umesh Yadav complained of pain in his calf while bowling his 4th over and was assessed by the BCCI medical team. He is being taken for scans now,” BCCI wrote on their official handle.
This is the second shocker for the team after Umesh Yadav becomes the second bowler to suffer an injury during the Test after Mohammad Shami was ruled out of the Test due to an arm injury.
Whether Umesh Yadav will play the remaining series is yet to be decided, and a final decision on the matter is expected to be taken overnight. If Yadav is ruled out, it will most likely make way for pacer Navdeep Saini’s Test debut.
Umesh Yadav did his part for the team before his calf injury coerced him to quit the game in the middle. He dismissed Australian opener Joe Burns, giving a heads-up to the hosts on behalf of the Indian bowling side.
India has displayed their control over the match, with the bowlers shining yet again. The batsman set up a decent, although reachable score of 131 runs. Captain Ajinkya Rahane was the knight in the shining armor as he registered a marvelous century, scoring 121 runs to be exact. Jasprit Bumrah smashed a half-century to add to the score.
