It was the most disappointing day of the year for the Indian cricket team as they suffered a crushing loss at the hands of Australia in their first Test at Adelaide. Australia mopped the floor with team India by 8 wickets on the third day of the Test. The visitors recorded the lowest-ever in the history of Test cricket, leading to such a massive defeat.
Team India registered a paltry total of 36 runs at the loss of 9 wickets. Not a single player could score a double-digit run, and all the batsmen fell like dominos.
Indian skipper Virat Kohli, disheartened by such a humiliating loss expressed that a ‘lack of intent’ was one of the major reasons behind their loss.
On their distressing Kohli said, “Very hard to put those feelings into words. We had a lead of 60-odd coming and just collapsed. When you work hard for two days and put yourself in a strong position and then an hour puts you in a position where it’s literally impossible to win.
“I think we should have showed a little more intent today,” he said.
Team India could manage to set up a target of 90 runs, which Australia chased down within 21 overs with eight wickets still remaining at their disposal. A plain-sailing victory for the hosts.
Australia clear had the upper hand in bowling as Josh Hazelwood and Pat Cummins went all out to clobber the batting line up of the visitors.
Acknowledging the Aussie bowlers, Kohli said, “To be honest there were some good balls but the ball didn’t do anything drastic. I think it was the mindset, it was very evident. It felt like the runs were so difficult to come by and the bowlers got confident. I think it was a combination of lack of intent and the bowlers hitting their areas.”
“I’m pretty confident that the boys going forward will reflect on this and come back stronger on Boxing Day.”
Australia and India will lock horns in the second Test commencing on December 26.
