It’s stumped on day 1 of the 2nd Test of India versus Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Boxing Day. After losing Mayank Agarwal, Shubham Gill and Cheteshwar Pujara stitch 36 runs for India.
Despite losing the toss, even though they lost an important wicket, India has it under control. The bowlers seemed unfazed by the previous loss and Shami’s absence didn’t feel so bothersome as they did a brilliant job of limiting the hosts at 195 runs, dismissing all the 10 wickets.
Even after losing the advantage of batting first on the batsman-friendly field, the bothers proved that was not the case. Bumrah stayed at the cutting edge in the entire 16 overs he bowled, scalping 4 wickets. R Ashwin was as solid during the first session and made sure he fulfilled his job of having the batsmen enjoy their time. Ashwin picked up 3 wickets.
The match proved they are bent on not repeating their previous blunders. Rahane did a great job as a leader. With an effective arrangement of field placements and the choice of bowling order, he ensured they gave a tough time to the Australian batsmen.
The Indian debutants have done an impressive job. While Shubham Gill ensured they did not suffer a further loss and kept adding steady runs, Mohammad Siraj clinched 2 wickets, making it a memorable start for his Test career.
Australia gave a difficult start to the visitors by ridding them of their opener Mayank Agarwal but the bowlers failed to keep the momentum.
At 36/1, India now trail by 159 runs.
