Delhi Capitals on Monday confirmed that the pacer Ishant Sharma will miss the entire season due to muscle tear. The 32-year-old has sustained “a left internal oblique muscle tear” during the practice session last week on October 7.
Ishant Sharma has only played only one match this season and failed to make it to playing XI due to injury concerns. The lanky pacer also became the second player from the Delhi Capitals to get sidelined after Amit Mishra.
Although, Delhi Capitals are still enjoying the top position in the latest rankings with five wins and a couple of losses so far. However, they lost to Mumbai Indians in their last game by five wickets.
Wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant also didn’t play in the match after sustaining a hamstring injury and ruled out for a week.
Captains Shreyas Iyer gave an update on his injury and later said, “rest for a week” and will undoubtedly miss the game against Rajasthan Royals.
Australian wicket-keeper batsman Alex Carey played in his absence and scored 14 runs off 9 balls at a strike rate of 155.56.
Ishant Sharma is likely to tour Australia for the white-ball series, followed by the Test series in January. Hopefully, he will recover by that time before the announcement of the preliminary squad.
