Chennai Super Kings propelled to their fifth of the season after defeating Kolkata Knight Riders by 6 wickets on Thursday. It was sheer class from the opener Ruturaj Gaikwad rode the entire team to the win with a match-winning knock of 72 runs studded with six boundaries and two sixes.
Ravindra Jadeja gave the much needed closure by hitting the final runs and took the side home in their second last outing.
After the win, man of the match Ruturaj Gaikwad said the atmosphere has been pretty relaxed in the team’s dressing room as players don’t feel they are out of the tournament.
“Atmosphere is pretty relaxed. Does not feel we are out of the tournament. The atmosphere during the first game and during this game was the same. It helps a lot,” Gaikwad said.
It will be first time, when CSK has participated in IPL and not made into the playoffs in the last 13 years. This season the side has had one of the most forgetful outings so far, leading to exit woefully.
“Obviously looking to continue my form and win for the team, nothing else matters. Hopefully, we finish the tournament with a win and continue the momentum next year,” Gaikwad told Shane Watson on IPLT20.com.
During the conversation, Shane Watson praised the youngster for coming strong in the tournament and score runs from the last couple of games.
“It has been a privilege to see Ruturaj bat so incredibly well and so composed. For a young guy and at a big stage like IPL, to be able to bat like he has is very impressive. And to be able to take on guys like Pat Cummins, Ferguson and Sunil Narine,” Watson said.
