Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) succumbed to their fifth loss of the season after falling against the Mumbai Indians on Wednesday. It was a completely clinical show from the MI bowlers especially Jasprit Bumrah who restricted RCB batsmen on 164/6 in 20 overs.
The other middle order batsmen failed to capitalize on the well augmented score laid by the opener Devdutt Padikkal. Later, the losing skipper Virat Kohli also acknowledged where his side lacked that led to their loss by wickets.
“It was a strange phase of batting (the last five overs of the RCB innings). Everything went to the fielders and these kind of things happen. They bowled in good areas in the last 5 overs and stopped us 20 runs short” Virat Kohli said.
At one point, RCB was looking in a good position and looked to go past 200 run mark comfortably. It was a sudden collapse of Virat Kohli and his men during the 16th over after MI skipper Keiron Pollard removed AB de Villiers.
RCB team management promoted the wicket-keeper batsman Josh Phillipe in the opening slot along with Devdutt Padikkal.
Padikkal remained the top-scorer of his side and also his highest score of this season, unfortunately, his heroics went in vain due to his side’s loss.
“We were in the game until the 17th over and that was a decent effort by our bowlers. It’s basically up to the gut of the captain and the conditions, we thought Dale and Morris for initial swing, and Washy in the powerplay. We needed a few wickets there, but their batsmen did a good job” the skipper added.
Royal Challengers Bangalore is currently at the 2nd place in the team standings. They are slated to face Sunrisers Hyderabad in their next match on October 31.
