The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Wednesday came up with contact tracing electronic badges for all the teams in IPL 2020.
The BCCI has taken all possible initiatives to counter the COVID-19 and make this year’s IPL safe and successful in the UAE. The board has handed over the badges to the teams including the players, staff members inside the bio-secure bubble. The family members of the players also received the electronic badges who are currently in the UAE.
One of the officials told ANI that the badges are of the size of a whistle and all the members have to wear that by as a mandatory protocol. The device functions via a Bluetooth-enabled technology that would help in tracking the location of all members. This would help the BCCI to take proper actions in case any case of coronavirus breaks within the bubble.
“The BCCI has put in place a robust system which sees not just the players, but also the support staff, officials and family members travelling with them wearing these BEEKs badges which will give the board a detailed report on who all we are coming in contact with by using data on movement and interaction. This actually helps if someone, unfortunately, turns positive as those in danger can be easily traced.” one of the franchise members said.
“While one can open the badge when inside the room, it needs to be worn at all times when outside the designated rooms. Also, it can be opened when the players enter the field of play,” he further added.
The BCCI also conducted a webinar, issuing guidelines on all the Dos & Don’ts to make this year’s IPL COVID-19 free and also a great success in the UAE. They also asked the teams to focus on the games as the rest will be taken care of by the professional team of the ECB and BCCI.
