Rajasthan Royals’ newly acquired batsman David Miller on Monday said that he wants to finish games like MS Dhoni. David Miller has praised the CSK skipper Dhoni for his leadership and his ability to finish games for his side.
Miller said he wants to replicate that for his team during the run chase during the IPL 2020. The middle order batsman has been a vital cog for South Africa as well as his former IPL team Kings XI Punjab.
“I think we’re all very different in the way we think we play. I absolutely love the way Dhoni goes about his business. Certainly his calmness — you just think he’s always under control. The way he portrays himself, that’s something he’s extremely good at and I do enjoy that about him. I try and give off the same energy. But in terms of an actual chase, he’s got his strengths and weaknesses as a batsman and so do I,” Miller told to ESPN CricInfo.
The former Indian skipper is known as one of the best finishers in the world for taking the game till the end.
“I tend to be in awe of some of his chases rather than “I want to bat like him.” I suppose I just want to finish games like he does. Technique-wise and the way you go about it, we all have our own ways. I don’t think I can rate myself or put myself in a category. We’ll see how my career unfolds and finishes and then we can look back and sort of judge. Definitely Dhoni is one of the best finishers ever; he’s proven it many times. I love watching him play,” he added.
Miller hasn’t been upto the mark for Kings XI Punjab as he could only score 213 runs in 10 matches in 2019 season at an average of 26.62.
This time around, Miller is working closely with the Rajasthan Royals head coach Andrew McDonald on his batting techniques. He has been picking the length and swing of the ball at an ease and also hitting them all over the park during the nets session.
Rajasthan Royals will play its first game of the season against Chennai Super Kings on September 22 at Sharjah.
