Delhi Capitals franchise on Sunday confirmed their first coronavirus case ahead of the 13th edition of the IPL in the UAE.
The team reported that their assistant physiotherapist has tested positive for COVID-19 but, the team has now ensured all the safety and precautions. The franchise also clarified that the member had tested negative for the first two tests but turned positive in the final round.
“Delhi Capitals Assistant Physiotherapist has tested positive for COVID-19. He was going through his mandatory quarantine, and had tested negative for his first two tests conducted on arrival in Dubai, and tested positive for the third one,” the franchise issued a statement.
However, the physiotherapist has gone under the quarantine and won’t take part in any further training sessions. The medical team is also in a constant touch with him and monitoring his health status during his quarantine period.
“He was yet to meet with, and had not been in contact with any players or staff of the franchise. He was isolated immediately, and is currently at the IPL Isolation Facility in Dubai for the next 14 days, at the end of which he will have to produce two negative reports for him to be able to join the Delhi Capitals squad. The franchise’s medical team is in constant touch with him, and wishes him a speedy recovery,” the statement further stated.
Fortunately, the infected member is yet to meet and interact with the players and coaches implying that the team will continue with their training sessions.
This news came a few hours after the BCCI announced the complete schedule of the IPL 2020 starting from September 19. The defending champions Mumbai Indians will take on the runner ups Chennai Super Kings in the tournament opener.
