The much-awaited gala tournament, the Indian Premier League (IPL), is finally going on floors this year and now the IPL Governing Council and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), have decided to hold a meeting on August 2 to finalize the schedule and all the other necessary arrangements required for the tournament.
“We are having the governing council meeting on 2nd August and major issues related to the league will be discussed in this meeting”, confirmed a BCCI source.
IPL Governing Council chairman Brijesh Patel and other key BCCI’s office bearers namely, President Sourav Ganguly, Secretary Jay Shah, and Treasurer Arun Dhumal will be part of the important meeting.
The Council will be preparing a road map for the league. The meeting will be centred upon discussions regarding the schedule, match venues, training facilities, quarantine measures as well as the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) that would be necessary for the event which will span over 60 matches within 50 days. Broadcasting and shiftings of the matches will also be discussed.
The Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed on Monday they have received a Letter of Intent from the BCCI to conduct the 13th edition of the mega-league in the UAE. The letter has been signed by IPL’s chief operating officer, Hemang Amin.
The ECB said it was looking forward to hosting the IPL, but a “final deal” would be inked only after the Indian government had given BCCI the permission to shift the tournament to the UAE.
This will be the 13th Indian Premier League. The broadcasting right of IPL is won by Star for a record Rs 16,347 crore or $2.55 billion from 2018 to 2022. The IPL broadcasting deal works out to over 54 crores per match. As per the agreements between BCCI and the team owners, 50% of this money goes to the franchises. One year without IPL happening may cause a big hit to many in the business.
