In a recent development, England’s top-order batsman Joe Denly has been ruled out of the remaining two ODI’s of the Royal London Series against Ireland after to suffering back spasms. Denly suffered the injury during the team’s training session in Southampton on Friday. This news was confirmed by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said on Friday.
Lancashire’s Liam Livingstone will now be replacing Denly in the 14-man team for the remaining two ODIs.
“Joe Denly has been ruled out the Royal London Series against Ireland after suffering back spasms in training on Wednesday. The Kent batsman has been replaced in the 14-man England ODI squad by Lancashire’s Liam Livingstone,” the ECB said in a statement.
Livingstone has just played two matches for England in the shortest format of the game i.e., T20Is. The Lancashire batsman is yet to play in the 50-over format for the national side and will be keen to make his ODI debut if selected in the playing XI in one of the final two matches against Ireland.
Earlier this week, the 34-year-old joined England men’s white-ball training group at the Ageas Bowl after the ECB out five players from the bio-secure bubble at Old Trafford.
England has taken a lead in the opening match by six wickets, the three-ODI series is being held behind closed doors in a bio-secure environment at the Ageas Bowl.
The team will face Ireland in the second ODI, which will be played on Saturday, followed by the final match on Tuesday.
