Kings XI Punjab co-owner Ness Wadia on Thursday said that he wants complete control of the bio-secure bubble in the UAE.
Wadia said that not everyone but only those members who should actually be with the players should be under the bubble. Last week, 13 personnel including two of the CSK players had tested positive for coronavirus, causing panic under the bubble.
That caused the safety concerns in the UAE even before the teams had even started their training ahead of the IPL 2020.
“The CSK incident has taught us that it can happen to anyone even when the best of precautions are taken and therefore we must be more compliant and rigid on the bio-bubble protocols. We need to ensure only those who are really required to be with the players are part of the bubble,” Wadia told PTI.
Only medical and staff members including team managers, social media managers and team operations will only be with the players. The CEOs and team owners will also be allowed to enter the bubble when they reach the UAE. But in case, they violate any protocol, they will have to undergo seven-day quarantine drafted by BCCIs Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
“The number of staff outside of the teams and their support staff and the match officials should be limited to the absolute minimum,” the BCCI SOPs said.
This year, the IPL teams have been badly hit financially as the matches will take place at the empty stadiums. The teams will miss out on the revenue coming from the ticket sales this year. But Wadia said that he is still looking at the brighter side.
