Kings XI Punjab stumbled on to their fifth loss of the season after they failed to chase the target against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Skipper KL Rahul was at the losing end yet another time and later admitted how demoralising defeat it was for the side.
KXIP skipper also admitted that losing the wicket of Mayank Agarwal was a disaster for the side in the high-scoring run-chase.
Sunrisers Hyderabad had posted a target of 202 runs for the Kings XI Punjab that actually didn’t go well with KL Rahul and his men. They lost the game by 69 runs and also registered one of the biggest margin losses this season.
KXIP started off the chase but lost their first wicket due to an unfortunate run out of Mayank Agarwal in the 2nd over. KL Rahul pointed out how the team suffered the first setback due to Agarwal’s run out within the powerplay.
“I think when we lose wickets in the powerplay, it’s always going to be tough and getting Mayank run-out was a disaster. We kept losing wickets after that and it was one of those days where everything (aerial shots) went into the hands of fielders” Rahul said.
The side has been experimenting a lot with its middle order in almost every game but nothing has so far clicked for them. They played Simran Singh as the wicket-keeper batsman but that too ended on a disappointment after he got out on 11 runs.
“The last five games we’ve been struggling in the death overs, but we pulled things back, else 230 was on the cards. Pooran is so good to watch, he’s hitting proper cricketing shots. If we get a decent job at the start, he can do the job for us later” the skipper added.
Kings XI Punjab will next square off against the Kolkata Knight Riders in the next fixture on October 10 at Sheikha Zayed Stadium.
