The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Monday promoted of the Kerala-born Indian umpire KN Ananthapadmanabhan into the ICC’s Panel of Umpires.
Ananthapadmanabhan is a former leg-spinner who is all set to become the fourth Indian umpire to be promoted in the International panel. The 50-year-old is set to fill the shoes of the Nitin Menon’s place after he moved to the ICC Elite Panel.
The other three Indian umpires who are a part of the ICC’s Panel of Umpires are: C Shamshuddin, Anil Chaudhary and Virender Sharma.
All these umpires have a vast experience of umpiring in the domestic circuit in India consisting of the Ranji Trophy, Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Irani Cup, IPL, Women’s matches, List A matches etc.
Ananthapadmanabhan has officiated in all these tournaments including the England Lions match as well. In his cricketing career, Ananthapadmanabhan has played in 105 First-class matches between 1988-2004. He also holds the record of being the first player from Kerala to score 2000 runs and also take 200 wickets in the Ranji Trophy.
