Bollywood actor turned producer Sohail Khan on Tuesday confirmed acquiring the Lanka Premier League’s Kandy franchise. The inaugural edition of the Lanka Premier League is scheduled to begin from November 21 next month.
With Sohail Khan buying the Kandy franchise, it has grabbed the attention of the cricket lovers especially after the association of Bollywood.
Earlier this week, over 143 foreign players including Chris Gayle, Shahid Afridi and Irrfan Pathan were drafted for the LPL.
Kandy franchise signed the explosive Caribbean batsman Chris Gayle along with Kusal Perera, Kusal Mendis and England pacer Liam Plukett. The 49-year-old producer said he is excited to be the part of the tournament which will kickstart from the next month.
“There is lot of potential in the Lanka Premier League and we are really very happy to be part of this exciting initiative,” Khan said in a press release.
“Sri Lankan fans are very passionate about the game and I am sure they will come out in large numbers to support the team. Chris Gayle is obviously the Universal Boss, but he is not alone, we have a very good team, a good balance of youth and experience, and I am backing my team to play the final,” he added.
Sohail Khan becomes the fifth Bollywood actor to own a franchise in a professional T20 League. Shahrukh Khan owns Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in IPL and Trinbago Knight Riders in Caribbean Premier League.
Juhi Chawla co-owns the KKR franchise, while Shilpa Shetty owns Rajasthan Royals and Preity Zinta owns Kings XI Punjab franchise.
